Annual Scholarship
Each year, the Pitt Band Alumni Council is proud to be able to award multiple scholarships to current Pitt Band students. Our main award is a $1,000/year scholarship to a sophomore that is then matched in the student's junior and senior year in partnership with the Pitt Alumni Association and Pitt Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. We typically award book scholarships to two other Pitt Band students, but were very pleased in 2012 to award three book scholarships due to increased alumni donations! All of these scholarships are made possible by the great support and generous donations from you, our alumni. Please continue to give generously so that we can continue to support our Pitt Band and its students.
Scholarship Winner
The 2012 winner of the $1000/year tuition scholarship was Greg Williamson. Greg is a sophomore at Pitt majoring in bioengineering with a minor in chemistry. He graduated high school from Victor, New York and has lived in Florida, Illinois, Hong Kong and Indiana as well. His parents are Pam and Bruce Williamson and he has an older brother, Scott and a younger brother Jeffrey. He participated in marching band for four years of high school and was the Low Brass Section leader and Band Captain his senior year. He also marched with the DCA drum corps Empire Statesmen for two years during high school. He began his music career playing the trumpet in fourth grade and switched to the baritone in eighth grade. He is a member of the baritone section in Pitt Band and also enjoys being a member of the pep band at basketball games. He is the president of the Alpha Omega chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. He appreciates all the opportunities and different
experiences Pitt Band has offered him, especially the different trips and all the friendships he now has.
Scholarship Endowment
Through your generous donations over the years, in 2010 we were proud to finally be able to establish a permanent scholarship endowment through the Pitt Alumni Association.
This endowment's interest and future donations will help to fund scholarships for Pitt Band students for many years to come.
However, the fund is still young and was only established at the $10,000 minimum.
We would strongly encourage you to continue to support the Pitt Band scholarships so that we can continue to grow our endowment,
grow our support of the Pitt Band, and grow our support of deserving Pitt Band students and support their academic success.
